Tata Group Announces ₹1 Crore Compensation for Families of Victims in Ahmedabad Plane Crash.
In a major humanitarian gesture, the Tata Group has announced a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of those who lost their lives in the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad. The group has also committed to covering full medical expenses for the injured and supporting the reconstruction of the damaged medical hostel.
🗨️ Statement from Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran
“We are deeply saddened and in pain due to the tragic incident involving Air India Flight 171,” said N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, in an official statement.
“The grief we feel at this moment cannot be expressed in words. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones and with those injured in the accident.”
He further added:
- ₹1 crore ex-gratia compensation will be provided to each family who lost a loved one in the tragedy.
- The entire medical treatment cost of those injured will be borne by Tata Group.
- The Group will also assist in rebuilding the hostel of B. J. Medical College, which was damaged in the crash.

Chandrasekaran emphasized that the Tata Group stands in solidarity with all affected families and the broader community during this unimaginable tragedy.
“We are committed to ensuring that the injured receive all the care and support they need. In these incredibly difficult times, we stand firmly with every affected family.”
Context: This announcement follows the crash of Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, which tragically crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, 2025, killing multiple passengers and damaging a doctors’ hostel near the airport.
